Cultural Charms in the Colorful Capital City

Standard DreamTrip
Explore both modern & historic attractions — including the intriguing Royal Museum, lively Independence Square & sacred Batu Caves. Plus, enjoy views from KL Tower, learn about batik & ride a cable car to Genting Highlands entertainment resort.
Book by March 5.

About Your Trip

Make memories to last a lifetime as you journey through Kuala Lumpur — Malaysia’s Garden City of Lights — and participate in activities ranging from relaxing to exhilarating. Your first outing kicks off with a city tour, starting at Malaysia’s former national palace and now the Royal Museum. Continue to KL Tower observation deck, where you’ll marvel at spectacular, 360-degree city views. In the city center, visit Independence Square (Dataran Merdeka) with its historic buildings, iconic flagpole and Kuala Lumpur City Gallery known for its collection of photos, paintings and an impressive, large-scale model of the city. You’ll also have an opportunity to take photos in front of the 88-floor Petronas Twin Towers, the world’s tallest twin structures. End your day with a hands-on workshop, diving into the local culture as you learn the ancient art of batik — you can even keep your handmade piece as a souvenir!

But the fun doesn’t stop there. The following day, you’ll be transported to the mystical, magical Batu Caves. These alluring caves and temples — not to mention a giant statue of Lord Murugan — are built into a limestone hill and are rumored to be close to 400 million years old. From there, you’ll hop aboard a cable car, said to be the longest in Southeast Asia, and soar over the rainforest to Genting Highlands. At this entertainment resort, you’ll have plenty of time to stroll the theme park, casino and shopping venues.

What we love:
• Dataran Merdeka is home to one of the world’s tallest flagpoles at 328 feet (100 meters), along with the beautiful Victoria Fountain and St. Mary’s Cathedral.
• You’ll see for yourself why EQ Kuala Lumpur was named “Best New Hotel – Asia Pacific” in Travel Weekly Asia’s 2019 Readers Choice Awards.
• The Kuala Lumpur City Gallery is a museum set in a colonial-era building built more than 100 years ago.
• To maximize your enjoyment, download the DreamTrips™ app to access DreamTrips Local — then earn points on dining, entertainment, spa experiences & more at select spots recommended by DreamTrippers just like you!

Destination

Old and new collide in Malaysia’s capital city of Kuala Lumpur. Metal high-rises tower over colorful markets. Hawkers peddle their wares on the steps of high-end shopping malls and modern restaurants. Malaysian tigers prowl the dense, exotic jungles just outside the city, and equally exotic islands are just a boat ride away.

Known as “KL” by its residents, Kuala Lumpur boasts an impressive array of sightseeing attractions, including the nearly 1,483-foot-tall (452-meter-tall) Petronas Twin Towers, the Sultan Abdul Samad Building and the National Mosque of Malaysia. The cuisine is highly influenced by both Indian and Chinese flavors, though much of the street food reflects Javanese, Arabian, Thai, Sumatran and Japanese.
